Human stem cells are harvested from adults, are used in various cosmetic procedures such as face lifts, PRP treatments, but may not be efficient in skin care as the cells would not differentiate into skin cells. However, we can use the stem cells as ‘ghost’ cells by implanting fibroblast DNA into the cell, thereby resulting in production of fibroblasts. This technique is known as induced pluripotent stem cells (IPS). Fibroblasts are responsible for generating connective tissue and allowing skin to recover from injury. As we age, the rate at which new skin cells turnover reduces, this may be percieved as form of injury to the skin also.
